Department
of Forensic Medicine has following responsibilities:
1.
Teaching and training of Forensic Medicine and Toxicology to the
students of 3rd year MBBS Class
2. Post
Mortem work of Faisalabad city.
3.
Supervision of Medico legal work at DHQ & Allied Hospital, PMC
Faisalabad.
4.
Co-ordination with Medical Unit-II regarding working Poison
Control Centre at Allied Hospital, Faisalabad.
5.
Training of CMOs/WMOs of Faisalabad District in Medico legal and
Post mortem work.
6.
Provision of Technical Assistance to District Standing Medical
Board Faisalabad & Provincial Standing Medical Board Punjab.
7.
Research in the field of Forensic Medicine & Toxicology.
Department
consists of following teaching areas:
A. Biological Laboratory: Students are taught
practical methods of examinations of medico legally important
body fluids such as blood, semen and saliva etc. in this lab
B. Museum is very important teaching area
having hundreds of specimens relating to Toxicology,
Traumatology, Thanatology and other Pathological conditions.
C. Autopsy Section of the Department is
situated in the premises of Allied Hospital. All the Post Mortem
Examinations of Faisalabad city are conducted in this section.
The Autopsy section started working in November, 1996. Since
then more than 3500 post mortem examination have been conducted.
D. Casualty Departments of DHQ & Allied
Hospital, PMC Faisalabad were given under supervision of
Forensic Medicine Department in 1999. Causes of trauma,
intoxication and sexual assaults are examined by CMOs/WCMO on
duty and medico legal certificates are also issued.
Department is also collaborating with Medical Unit-II Allied
Hospital regarding the working of Provincial Poison Control
Center with the technical assistance of Ministry of Health &
WHO.
In
addition to the teaching the undergraduate medical students, the
Departments of Forensic Medicine also organizes training
programs for Medical Officer to improve the standard of medico
legal work.
Prof. Dr.
Ahmad Saeed is head of department. Dr. Khurram Sohail Raja,
Assistance Professor is also working as District Medico legal
Officer, Incharge of the COD, DHQ Hospital, Faisalabad, Incharge
Teaching Program, Coordinator for Provincial Poison Control
Center and Master Trainer from UHS for Medical Education. Other
Assistant Professors are Dr. Humera Arshad & Dr. Saeed Akbar. Dr. Saeed Akbar is Incharge of COD Allied Hospital
and Dr. Muhammad Naeem is Incharge Postmortem Unit, Dr. Bashir
Ahmad Siddiqui is Incharge CME. Other teachers of the Department
include Dr. Arshad Masood, Dr. Javed Iqbal and Dr. Tanveer Zafar.
