Mental Health Day & Anti-Narcotics Day 2009

"NO HEALTH WITHOUT MENTAL HEALTH"

"NO DRUGS AT ANY COST"

Report by Atiqa Mehmood 4th yr

On 5th August, 2009 the Punjab Medical College Auditorium bore venue to the Mental Health and Anti-narcotics Day 2009. This event was organized by Netizens and PAC in collaboration with the Department of Psychiatry and Behavioral Sciences PMC Allied and DHQ Hospital and Anjuman-e-Insadad-e-Munshiat. The event was presided over by Prof. Dr. Riaz Hussain (Principal PMC). The chief Guest of the event was Brig. Sajjad Ahmed Bakhshi and the Chief Organizer was Dr. Imtiaz Ahmed Dogar (President, Netizens). The two main people without which this event would've been impossible to conduct are Prof. Dr. Riaz Hussain and Dr. Imtiaz Ahmed Dogar. Prof. Dr. Riaz Hussain extended his help in all matters and played a major role in making this event successful.

The auditorium was gloriously transformed for the event by strenuous Decoration team of Netizens. The decoration was elegantly beautiful and spoke volumes about the event. The event was an elaborate affair catering to all whatever their taste may be. The message of Anti-narcotics and Mental Health was depicted in various media just so as it could be received warmly. Contests like Speech Competition, Story Writing Competition, Essay Writing Competition, survey competition and Poster Competition were a major attraction to the students and doctors. Contributions came in large numbers. The prizes awarded in the above categories are:

  • Speech : Nafeesa Ehsan (4th Year)

  • Survey : Istikhar (4th Year)

  • Poster Competition : Farrukh (1st Year BDS)

  • Essay Writing : Farman (4th Year)

  • Story Writing : Arifa Javed (4th Year)

Other main attractions of the event were Skits, Songs and Short Films. 2nd, 3rd and 4th Years performed skits and amused the crowd with intelligent humor intermingled with hard core facts.

The refreshers of the event were the songs. They uplifted the mood of the whole crowd. The credit goes to the musicians and singers.

The turn over of the event was really good which shows that the times are changing and people are interested in supporting causes like Anti-narcotics and Mental Health. With this event the organizers tried to highlight one of the major problems of our society.

Organizers who worked endlessly to make this event a success are Awais Saeed Abbasi, Ahsan Arif, M. Omar, Zain-ur-Rehman, Taimoor Anwar, Atiqa Mahmood, Nafeesa Ehsan, Rabbia Arshad, Rabbia Mazhar and Arifa Javed. Their immense effort showed and every aspect of the event was taken care of to the minutest detail. Stage management and co-ordination was superb.

All in all organizers were successful in conveying the Public Awareness Message of Mental Health and Anti-narcotics.
