The Cardiology Department of Allied Hospital, Faisalabad Medical University comprises of CCU and cardiology ward. This unit was established initially as a 22 bed CCU in 1986. This unit was extended to a capacity of 39 beds with 24 bedded CCU and 15 bedded cardiology ward.

Presently, unit is working under the supervision of Prof. Dr. Muhammad Naeem Aslam. Other faculty members include Dr. Waqar Shamim (Assistant Professor of Cardiology), Dr. Yousuf Hassan Khan (Senior Registrar/ APMO), Dr. Muhammad Iqbal (Admin Registrar), Dr. Maqbool Hussain (Senior Medical Officer), Dr. Zulfiqar Ali (Senior Registrar) and Dr. Safeena Maqsood (FCPS) Senior Registrar. A Team of the 18-20 dedicated doctors including (Post Graduates + House officers) are working in the ward day and night for patient’s welfare and their better management. Post graduates trainees of FCPS part-II medicine come on rotation from medical wards.

This unit is a tertiary care unit catering for large population (7.5 Million) of Faisalabad and vast catchments area including districts of Jhang, Chiniot, Toba Tek Singh and Sargodha etc. Average patient turnover is very high with a monthly admission of 400- 450 patients. Burden of OPD is huge mounting to 100 patients per OPD with four days of OPD per week. 04-05 EETs are performed daily. About 05 patient are thromobolysed for acute myocardial infarction every day.

Cardiology Department is equipped with new latest fluoroscopy and latest fully equipped echocardiography machine up-till now more than 4,000 echocardiographies have been performed on patients free of cost. Lots of research work is going on in the department. Recently one of the papers published by Cardiology Department has been awarded as best article of the year, by “Pakistan Cardiac Society”

State of Art 64 slice coronary CT angio machine and cardiac MRI is also available for all cardiac patients, installed in next door Radiology Department.

Extension plan for state of art Cardiology Department is already is process of approval. May Allah bless all of us and strengthen our efforts to make this department illustrious.
