The Department of Radiotherapy/Oncology was established in August 1996 with the transfer of Dr. Syed Ijaz Hussain Shah from King Edward Medical College, Lahore. The machines were made functional are radiotherapy, rugular OPD, indoor and day care, chemotherapy was started. The Prof. Dr. Syed Ijaz Hussain Shah retired on February 2015 and Dr. Muhammad Khalid, Associate Professor, took the responsibility as head of department and now the department has progressed so vigorously that now annually new patients are more than 2800.

It is one of the busiest and biggest Cancer centers in the country. The department is fully engaged in the undergraduate and postgraduate training in Oncology. The department is recognized for postgraduate training in Radiotherapy as MCPS & FCPS.

This is one of the four departments in Punjab which is running Punjab CML (Blood Cancer) project by the Government of Punjab and giving free medicines to the patients of CML, GIST and myeloproliferative neoplasms. The department has honor to hold four international cancer congress.
