Medical Unit III

Introduction / Information

Medical Unit III is a 74-bed teaching unit affiliated with Faisalabad Medical University. The unit is accredited for postgraduate training in FCPS (Medicine) and MD (Medicine), as well as for doctoral diplomas in Diabetes and Family Medicine. A dedicated section for managing endocrine patients is also functioning within the unit.
The unit operates under the supervision of Dr. Muhammad Owais Fazal, Associate Professor of Medicine, who additionally serves as In-Charge of the Isolation and Infectious Diseases Ward at Allied Hospital, Faisalabad. Dr. Owais has an extensive portfolio of research publications, with a particular emphasis on Diabetes. Recently, under his supervision, a book on the management of hyperglycemia in pregnancy was launched at the International Diabetes Federation Conference in Bangkok, 2025, where he represented the university as a presenter
Dr. Owais also holds a master’s degree in public health and serves as the Editor of the university’s official magazine, The Annals of Punjab Medical College. He is an approved supervisor for FCPS and MD Medicine training and serves as a paper setter and assessor for the University of Health Sciences and Faisalabad Medical University.
Recognizing that research is essential for addressing contemporary challenges and contributing to institutional advancement, the Unit Head has played a leading role in strengthening the University Research Cell as director. The unit is also supported by the only endocrinologist currently serving at the university, Dr. Usman Musharaf. The unit is envisioned to become an accredited training site for FCPS Endocrinology in the coming years.
A total of ten consultants work under their supervision in Medical Unit III, including two supervisors for FCPS and MD Medicine trainees. Dr. Ahmed Zeshan Chughtai (Assistant Professor of Medicine, Dr. Ghulam Abbas, Dr. Usman Musharaf, Dr. Irfan Haidar, Dr. Mustafa Khalid, Dr. Arsalan Khalid, Dr. Abdul Qadoos, Dr. Naila Unbreen, Dr. Freena, Dr. Aeiman Qayyum. Medical Unit III maintains a strong academic environment through its structured activities, which include:
• Daily Mortality Meetings
• Weekly Clinicopathological Conferences (CPCs) for undergraduate and postgraduate learners
• Monthly training sessions for examination candidates
• A regular Journal Club focusing on recent advances for postgraduate trainees
